Hi, my 1988 Yamaha 15 hp has a water intake under the cavitation plate. It does not have the traditional side intakes on the lower unit. Does anyone know what I need to run this outboard on the garden hose? I have a universal under plate flushing plate that holds on with wing nuts but it won't fit properly because of the zinc anode on the underside of the cav. plate. I would like to do this because I am tired of filling up a bucket to run it in.I know there is a flush fitting on the lower unit but you are not supposed to run the motor using this to the best of my knowledge. Someone please help, thanks

I believe you are suppose to get the hose adapter to screw into the lower unit and run it that way, but I have never looked at an 88

That pic is a 9.9 unless you changes the cowling

yes I have 9.9 decals on my 15 hp. I am not sure you can run it while on that connection. I know I have seen what I am after somewhere I just can't seem to find one.

need to find an owners manual
or someone with a motor that has that set up to see what they have been doing for many years with theirs

need to see if that passage runs into the pump inlet or after, but I think that was how they were flushed while running because the stat would not open for compete passage flushing if motor was not running

Re: Garden hose flush attachment for a 1988 Yamaha 15 hp

Just browsing on Yamaha and finally got an answer to my question: where is the cooling water intake on my recently purchased 1990 9.9 HP.. it appeared to me to be under the cavitation plate, seems that its the case. The warning too that the flush out hole may not provide enough water to cool the engine.

If anyone finds some kind of a clamp=on for cooling with a hose I'd like to consider buying one myself.

I need to do a impeller replacement, otherwise my 1990 looks about a clean and new as the subject of this post. Seems there are a few engines around that have almost never been used.

EDIT: your subject is 15 hp, the pics are of a 9.9 hp, looks just like my 1990.
See my pics at: http://forums.iboats.com/non-repair...-like-new-circa-1995-yamaha-9-9-a-612990.html

I'd like to discuss if there is an adjustment for making the motor raise easier, it takes a real push to bring the motor up to the top stop.
