I have a 1984 50 hp merc. Started running funny, no power for awhile, then it would be fine now no power at all. Did carb kits for peace of mind and found white/blk wire broken to the trigger. Replaced as much of wire as I could and then tested for spark. 1 and 2 are great 3 fires every 3 seconds and 4 almost nothing.

Test I have tried with multi-meter using info from this site.
Ohms between brown&white/blk .820k
" " Violet&white. .788k
My meter was set on auto in ohms. The decimal thru me off. Am I reading it right?

Cranking test of blue stator wires 250 volts
" " Red stator wires 33 volts.

Could someone please point me in the right direction. Thank

Re: Trigger problem?

Here is a link to the condensed version of the Clymer manual. Download it soonest to your computer as the link is short lived.

Small Engine Repair Reference Center Home: MERCURY - MERCURY THREE-CYLINDER MODELS.

You haven't provided your engine s/n, however yours should be without a distributor and in the manual, start at Models Without Distributor on page 244 and see stator/trigger values on page 245.
