Hi,

Replacing a blown lower unit (right) with a good lower unit (left) that I pressure/vac tested and appears to be in good shape. The replacement was sold to me as a 1988 also, but from a 115hp motor... all appears to be a match except for the shift rod (see pic)... The screw holes are the same distance from the center line of the shift rod, so I believe the new shift rod hole will line up with the top pivot/screw ok....

Would appreciate any guidance on this.... don't want to replace if it don't have to...

thanks in advance for your input...

I wasn’t able to find a 1988 115 listed.

But if the threads, length, and hole size match I’d say it’s worth a try. I would not force it, though, the bends look different.

Ebay has a 25 incher for 25 bucks
