I have an old Johnson outboard, the ID plate on the leg of the motor IDs it as a 1958 18HP, when I look up a parts list it shows this motor has one condenser, points, ect. but my motor has two of everything which leads me to think its not the original powerhead is there a way to ID the power head so I will know what to ask for when hunting for parts

Re: Motor ID

Some parts lists are like that. They show one part only, but when you go to order it, it'll say "2 required" (or something like that). There is a quarter size aluminum freeze plug on the motor which will have the model number and also the serial number. Sometimes powerheads get changed and the numbers on the transom clamp won't match the numbers on the freeze plug.
