I have a 1975 johnson 6 hp. Before i changed the water pump and thermostat it started right up. I put it all back together and she won't start up. Could I"be messed anything up in the process of changing the water pump. The impeller was really tight but i don't think that would have done anything. Man this is getting really frustrating. If anyone could help i would appricate it thanks

Water pump shouldn't have any thing to do with not starting. Check your spark and see if you're getting fuel.

I turned the flywheel by hand a few times and also flipped engine onto flywheel. Could this mess up the points or anything under flywheel?

Yea pretty sure but the shift lever seems to be not the same. It used to be easy to tell when it was in neutral. Now it seems harder to get into foward or reverse. I need to get her running

Recheck your shift connections and the position of the twist grip throttle.
