I am looking to buy a parts motor for my 1973 115 hp Merc. It runs great but I need a new lower unit. From what Ed has told be it should work fine. My question now is will the electrical components from the 1978 work on my 1973?

As long as they are both distributor ign, all the electrical parts will work. You may see that the older coil and rectifier look different than the newer ones.
