I'm installing new water pump tomorrow on my 1975 johnson 6hp. Any1 have any tips on getting the lower unit on. Seems like its going to be tricky to connect shift rod, water tube and drive shaft. Is there a correct order to do it? And is it hard to get the driveshaft up and connected with that pin that needs to be placed in the lower bearing seal.

Putting a lower unit back on can be a tricky process. The water pump connection is first, then the drive shaft (I always take the plugs out so I can reach up and turn the flywheel by hand to line up the splines/pin), then, leave the l/u about a half inch from closing and reconnect the shift rod. If eveything is in line, it'll push up and back together. Any resistance means something is wrong so, take your time and double check as you go.
