I have a 1975 Johnson 40-hp 40el75c
The book only tells me the amount of torque for the head bolts. I need the torque spec for the water jacket plate

Re: Torque

I would say that it is probably because it doesn't really matter. You just want them very snug to make sure the gasket seals good. If later you see a little water come out, snug it down some more. Since you are squeezing down on a gasket it wouldn't hurt to snug them in a rotational fashion, a lot like you would do for the head bolts.

Re: Torque

Actually, it does give the torque---listed as "standard screws"

#6 = 7-10 in lb
# 8 = 15-22 in lb
#10 = 25-35 in lb
#12 = 35-40 in lb
1/4" = 60-80 in lb
5/16" = 120-140 in lb
3/8" = 220-240 in lb.

Re: Torque

I saw that table with the bolt size but the bolt that it uses is not listed I use a 7/16 socket on the bolt

Re: Torque

The bolt sizes listed are the thread size, not head size. I'm pretty sure those you are asking about are 1/4-20 bolts.
