Just curious, right in front of the starboard side intake grate is a screw. The manual says its a retaining screw but I can't see from the scematic what it retains. Anyone shed any light on the mystery screw? Whatever it is, it's only accesible thru the lower bearing carrier and behind the ring gear.
It's a J70TLEND motor.
Thanks

It's #3. That parts diaphragm says bearing set screw, but I still can't see what it really is doing. I actually loosened it but stopped when I felt resistance and tightened it back up. I don't think anything moved or fell down when I did it. I think I got lucky.

That screw holds the lower pinion bearing race in place.....make sure seal on end of screw is not damaged or it will leak.
