Got a sweet running 58 18hp that has a busted up (2 cracks) lower unit so I will be looking to find a replacement for it. question is what would be the latest year I could go that would fit, its a 4 spline drive shaft, short shaft. are there other HP & such I could look into that would bolt up?

You will have quite a few options Kodi. The 18/20s even later on will bolt up. Some will require a complete gearcase swap though, as some internals may be different. Even the 10s from like a '56, '57 will work. In '58 the 10s went to a 4 bolt gearcase though so will not work.

Great to hear this' I will start to search the local bone piles I was hoping the 18-20's might work because I think I know a fellow that has some out in his pile. thanks
