I have a '89 75HP Mariner that did not want to start when I went to put it on the trailer after being on the lake. I thought it was flooded ( had just switched tanks ) or the plugs were fouled, so when I got home I pull a plug to check and then noticed the wires were looking a little rough. I pulled a plug wire off the coil and the end came off and then another. I just figured I would buy new wires, so I called and the local shop, they said $75 for 3 plug wires ( about 8" long ) I'm still in shock, are they gold plated or what. Why can you not use automotive plug wires?

Re: Plug Wires

Everything boat adds $$$ to the product. I'm not sure if automotive ones will work. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in soon.

Engines are engines. You're sending spark from one end to the other. No reason to get them from a boat shop if the price is crazy. Stop by Napa on your way home and pick up a set.
