I have a 1986 GM 3.0 4 cylinder engine with a cobra outdrive. I just replaced the distributor cap, rotor, plugs, points, condensor, and coil (twice). A couple times this year I stopped getting spark from the coil (even replaced it) only to have it start working again. Once I got spark and the engine started I was trouble shooting by pulling spark plug wires off (one at a time) while the engine was running to see the effect and found that one of them(2nd one in fron the front) didn't seem to change anything whether it was connected or not. No spark from that wire. I swapped wires and the same thing for that same plug.
I did a compression test (with a warm engine) and got 134, 124, 138, 140 dry and then 144,129, 145, 144 wet.

On 2nd tank of gas (all fresh now). First tank had a mixture.

the plugs electrodes all seem in appearance a like and no I have not set the timing yet.

I have lost some power and top end rpms and I am trouble-shooting these issues.
The last 2 weekends I have used it, it starts up immediately w/o any problems.

Suggestions on how to proceed?
