Greetings

I damaged one of my carb bodies during a rebuild

It was the upper carb on a 85193H

I purchased a set of carbs of the interweb that supposedly interchanged from a Johnson 1972 85HP

There are some significant differences

Original body SOP# 314948

Replacement SOP# 317472-D2

-Idle mixture screws were long on the original and short on the replacement

-Extra access to passages (threaded plugs Vs permanent plug on the new Vs the old and the upper)

-The reliefs in the top of the new carb are triangular and match the gasket on the float chamber which appears to be the same float chamber on either carb

My plan was to just one of the new carbs(upper) and rebuild and keep the lower but change the low speed mixture screws to all long style

Any clue if this will work?

In the pictures the "new" carb is in the foreground.photo 2.JPGphoto 1.JPG

Thank you

OK

Did some more digging and it appears the 72 has a fixed low speed orfice

May I run one 1971 lower and a 1972 Upper?

I am thinking no problem.

Also the 1972 carb has more end play on the choke might this be a problem?

Thank you

The 71 has adjustable idle screws, the 72 uses fixed idle jets. You are better off to just use both of the 72 carbs instead of mixing the two sets.
