99" 120 Force 30" to 25"

Good Morning All,

New to this. How do I convert a 30" lower unit to a 25"? Great motor that runs great.
I commission Insurance recovery boats. Had the motor from another boat.

Well, first the leg size has nothing to do with the advertised length. Extra long shaft fits a 25 inch transom and long shaft fits a 20 inch transom. There is NO conversion kit. I Believe the Mercury Force engines have a 5 inch extension on the lower leg. Simply remove this extension and change to shorter studs. Now, I also believe that the lower unit has a one piece drive shaft. If it does, then it would be easier to buy a long shaft lower unit and sell the extra long shaft unit you have.

Really: Unless you are using the engine yourself, sell it as-is.
