Evinrude ETec 90hp - motor won't raise

Hi,
I have the above mentioned motor, the motor will tilt down no issues, but to raise the motor requires me to physically lift it up whilst holding the trim button. I can hear the motor working to try and raise it but it won't move unless I lift it up.

Does it have anything to do with hydraulics or fluid?

First Welcome to iboats.

Open the relief valve - leave open
Top off the fluid - tighten the fill cap
Physically lift and lower the motor 5-6 times - all the way up and all the way down (good exercise too!)
Close the relief valve
Now try the tilt/trim.

When they are low on fluid they will not work, when re-filled they will develop a huge air lock. Use the proper fluid and the lifting and lowering will bleed the air. That should do it. If you have a local dealer pick up a small container of trim fluid to use.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the note, thats a great help. I could smell some fluid when I was putting the bung in on Saturday. Its' obviously leaking or empty.

Yes not a lot of fun lifting the motor I must say but great advice there so see how we go. Always something going on!!!
