2008 50 hp bigfoot efi no spark on cyl 1,3 or 4

Engine was bought new in 2008 and has about 20 hours on it. I tested all of my power and grounds to the coils and tested the coils and wires. All is good except the readings from the d prong on each coil. All 4 coils read the same but only #2 has spark. Is there a coil recall on this engine? Any info on his problem would sure help thanks Paul.

I guess my real question is... Is there anything that could cause 3 cylinders to loose fire besides 3 coils going bad?

this is a "Waste Spark" ignition system. different than conventional ignitions. install all plugs onto the plug wires and hold all plug bodies to engine ground, crank engine while observing spark at each.

I have, it had spark on #2 only. I traded #1 and #2 coil this morning now I have spark on #1 only. So now the question becomes how did I waste 3 coils? Should I replace all 4? And could a faulty voltage regulator have caused this? I have never heared any beeps and have never had a charging problem. Do any of you know of any service bulletins or recalls for this model?

Thank you very much, mine is 1C051555 so if I am reading this correctly my engine falls into the 1st and the 3rd. And the 3rd bulliten applies if a coil plug is damaged. I will be calling my dealer tomorrow.

Do you know if there are any other bulletins? Volt Pack?

tlked to my dealer today Im still under warentee. Thanks for the help.

Dealer put on four new coils free of charge, thanks merc.

I think this good news story highlights the support dealers and Mercury gives. And makes it all the more important to comply with the terms of the 5 year warrantee.
