stuck valve?

Hello. I have an old 1968 Aristocraft with a 120 mercruiser. The motor starts and runs fine but a couple of times a year when I'm running it hard it starts making a bad popping sound and I always assume I blowed it up. But then I shut her down and restart her and she seems fine again. Probably getting lucky. What do you think? Do I have a bent valve or possibly need to adjust the valves? Or just quit running it hard? Thanks.

Could be a sticky valve,have you tried to run some seafoam through the system? Do the lifters rattle?,is there water in the fuel?
Have ya tuned it up/set timing lately?
