Brand new tandem axle trailer with disc surge brakes. I noticed when towing approx. 15 miles the rotor and wheel were hot to the touch. It appears the pads are contacting the rotor more than normal. Is this to be expected on a new trailer, or is there some sort of set-up that perhaps wasn't completed?

They will be hot if you did any stops at all.

You using an equalizing hitch by chance?

I wouldn't be worried about it since its brand new, let them(the brakes) seat and everything should be fine, get a couple hundred miles on them and I bet they will be fine, but of course keep tabs on them.

I bet they are fine. At the same time, touch the brakes on your tow vehicle and compare.
