Volvo penta serial number

Hello everyone. I have a 76 Volvo penta 130/280 stern drive. I have searched high and low on the motor for the serial number and can not find any tag or label. I need to buy parts for it and don't know what to do without the serial number. Is there any other way to acquire the serial number of this engine?

You don't need a serial number to order parts for an aq130, but you may need to know if its an a,b,c,or d. There should be a tag down on the port side of the motor, just in front of the starter.

Ok I've looked there also and still no serial numbers. What is the difference between an a,b,c or d motor? I thought it was a, d. But on one side of the motor it has in raised printing "Volvo B 20" would that indicate that it's a b?

B20 is only the block number, doesn't have anything to do with the all the bolt on accessories on that block, or the letters after the 130.

There are slight differences in the a-d models, but they are minor. One of the aq130 owners may chime in with that info.

what parts are you trying to order?
