I have a Mercruiser 3.0L Alpha One installed in a 2000 Sea Ray 180 Bow Rider. I just bought the boat a month ago and noticed every time I pull my transom drain plug after leaving the water, oil drains out with the water. I narrowed it down to the front of the engine. It is coming out right on top of the timing alignment marks. Is there a seal in the front of the motor that can cause this. If so, is it easy for a mechanically inclined person like myself (aircraft mechanic) to change?

Re: 3.0L Oil leak

Most likely it is a rusted timing cover. Remove the engine mount and check it out. I was able to rest my oil pan on a stack of wood. Then I levered up on the mount to add one more thin piece of wood. You will need a harmonic balancer puller to get the pulley off. Remove drive and check engine alignment when complete.
