55 evinrude 7.5 not pumping water after overhaul

I just got my fleetwin back together today and it started up fine but even though i had both water intakes submerged it wouldnt pump is there a way to prime it or something? Also if i end up having to pull the powerhead again do i need to get another new base gasket or can i reuse the one i just put in? What could i have done wrong that would have caused this? :facepalm:

the water needs to be pretty high up (3-4" is not too much) for it to prime if it is just above the intake some times is not enough for it to prime. I found that on the 58 10hp I just worked over.

you need to have the impeller submerged. they wont self prime.

If the issue is not the water level, did you forget the key? Water line not pinched in grommet? Intake free of debris? housing/plate not worn?

If you don't tear/damage the gasket you can reuse it.

Ok lesson learned it just needed to be in more water to prime thanks for the help it runs like the day it was made now:)
