Just purchased a 1990 Evinrude XP150. Motor is really hard to start. Once started and the engine warms up runs great. I have not seen an outboard that does not have a high idle lever on it. My boat does not or I am not finding it. The boat is a 1990 Hydra-Sport VS-150-T. Any thoughts or ideas.

I also have an Evinrude 1990 150HP V6. It is a cold blooded beast. My controls don't have a high idle lever on them.

To start mine. After priming the bulb, I press in the key for a few seconds. This engages the fuel solenoid and allows fuel to shoot into the carburetor bodies right before the reed valves. Once it fires up, I might have to tap the key in a couple of times to keep it running until the fuel pump gets pumping properly.
