Hi all,
First post going up here. I've got an 01 Toyota Tundra SR5 that is rated to 6500# and I'm looking at upgrading my 2001 Trophy 2002 to a 2001 2352. I think the 2352 comes in at 4500 dry and has a 100 gallon tank. Loaded with fuel and considering the weight of the trailer, I'm gonna be pretty close to my capacity. Also, my truck has a 3" body lift, I don't think that will affect the suspension much but I wanted to include that fact. What do you think of this set up? Is towing close to or at capacity really dangerous? I only go about 30 minutes down pretty straight roads to get to my inlet. Also, would adding leaf springs or coil overs in the back increase my towing capacity? Thanks for your time in regard to responding to this post.

3" body lift changes your center of gravity, it may be a little dicey in braking situations. I have no doubt your truck will be able to pull it, but will it be able to stop it safely?

Your boat is 4500 pounds, about 650 pounds of fuel with a full tank. Plus, if you have any fresh water on board. Plus gear, cooler, etc. I did not see you mention the weight of your trailer, you need to factor that in as well. Or is the 4500 Boat and trailer?

Straight roads are good, but are they interstate roads where you will be cruising along at 65MPH? How much traffic is on these roads etc.

How much bigger than stock are your tires?

Wow thanks for the quick replies. I run 285/75 load range d tires. Im not sure about the weight of the trailer. Boat is 4500 dry no trailer. No interstate roads and traffic is moderate. I will have an hour and a half tow through all sorts of roads once to get the boat home.

I believe the truck was designed for a 29.5" (245/70-16) tire and you have 33.1" (285/75-16) tire. Going from a 14.75" radius to a 16.55" radius tire means the transmission and brakes are acting on a longer lever arm and you'll get about 12% less force when accelerating and braking than Toyota expected you to have when towing. Its not the setup I'd prefer to have when pushing the tow limit. It might be okay, but I wouldn't be surprised to get warped brake rotors or burnt transmission fluid.

I'd assume 1000 + lbs for a 23 ft dual axle boat trailer. It would definitley be worth putting the whole package on a scale to find out for sure.

My 21' dual axle trailer weighs in around 1100# by itself... heavy sucker
