removing prop

I need to remove the prop from a 1992 40hp Johnson outboard this week-end.

however, the trailer for the boat is away at another location.

will it cause a problem if I remove the prop while the boat is still in the water?

I have changed prop wile in the water just don't drop anything lol

Bring the boat into shallow water; you might even be able to beach it stern first with the motor up.
Shallow water sandy bottom will make it easier if you drop the little bits.
