I have a 30ft pontoon boat with a 3.0 mercrusier and once i installed the rebuilt engine, we tried to stab the lowerunit into place. It didnt go. The shifter was in foward gear and the lower unit was in foward gear so that i could align the splines from the lower unit with the motor the spines started but the lower unit was still 3/4 of an inch away from being on. So my thought is that the front motor mount was not installed properly with the right bushings alowing the motor to tilt down in the front causing alignment issues. Question is how do i get to the nuts under the cross member without tearing apart a bunch of parts because there isnt enough room for a cresent wrench?
