When I try to crank the motor over it cranks but it sounds like it is needing a lot of torque to crank or it's not getting enough juice to continue cranking. Also, the positive battery cable (at the battery post) starts to smoke and glow red. I just bought a new battery (CCA 550 Deep Cycle Marine) yesterday and the same thing is happening with it.

Do I need a new starter or is it something else? thanks in advance for your replies and/or help.

Howdy, Glastron.

:welcome:

Most likely cause is bad cables or connections. Take both battery cables off, both ends. Check for weak or swollen spots, then scrub the connections shiny and reconnect.
