Hi
I have a 1988 90 hp outboard,
I test ran it with the muffs on, ran it 2 weeks ago with no
problems . Yesterday i ran it with muffs on and no water
out of the hole which i found to be plugged real good, so i
remove the 1/8 inch plastic reducer and ran motor without it,
So the question is will there be engine damage without the
plastic reducer ?
Many thanks, Bulldog

No, the pee hole is simply a visual indicator so you can tell if the motors are getting water. Full stream or restricted as long as nothing is restricting water to your motor all is well.

Personally, I'd run that nozzle. Another suggestion: I'd make that telltale hose long enough to loop up to the top of the block, then uturn down to the cowling nozzle. This extra hose length assures that the block will full with water before any water bleeds out of the system. The factory started this hose configuration in the later crossflow years-not sure if yours is like this or not.
