OMC 120HP to OMC 3 Liter

I have 1976 OMC 120 with original drive. The motor needs replacing. Can I replace with a 1987 OMC 3 liter? The 3 liter was coupled with a Cobra drive. Anyone know what I would be looking at to replace? 3Liter is complete with manifolds, carb, starter, alt, etc. Will old drive handle extra horsepower and will it just bolt up or what? Thanks.

In 1980 both the 120 and 140 used a 181 CI 3.0 L motor. They uses same gearing and outdrive as well. Only difference I think was in carb. Even today 3.0L looks to be same block. Should fit fine but you may need a different prop.
