I have a 1966 Evinrude Big twin 40. It is leaking gas from what appears to be a brass plug just above the carb drain screw at the front of the carb (see Attached Picture). Can someone tell me what the brass thing is and how do I stop it from leaking. Engine also idles rough but seems to smooth out on acceleration, and gets terrible mileage for a 40. Any help would be appreciated. 0625131501.jpg

I've never heard of that brass plug leaking... strange. Are you sure that it's not leaking fro the top of the drain screw gasket. If indeed it is that brass plug, I'd suggest looking for a good used float chamber.

I suppose it's possible, but wouldn't it leak down instead of up? You can actually see the gas moving (swirling) all around the brass plug, top and bottom. Ill try replacing the gasquet at the drain screw and see what happens. thanks
