Hey, my firned has this boat in his garage, it seems to be in good condition, ecxept that the interior is mostly gone (seats etc. [gauges/wheel still there]) We were bored, and have decided to strt to fix up the boat, but we do not know where to start, we dont have much boat tech knowledge, and not much money.) Just to get some ideas, we started brainstorming, and assuming the engine works, we thought we would:
-tint windows
-Get buckets and bench seats from pick-your-parts
-paint it (probably not, really hard, were beggineers)
-try to find cheap audio
-(probably impossible on our budget) Just a question really, is it possible to rig a gas car engine to drive one? or is it stricktly marine enignes?
thats all we could come up with, but im lookign for cheap, easy modifications, and im pretty sure it hasnt been used in a long time, so what should be done to the motor? alright thanks for your time, ill post more when i think of more, mike

Re: Boat to work on

Lots of knowledge here if you read the posts. We were all beginners at one time.

One thing to learn fast - safety on the water has got to be at the top of your list. Example:

Engine compartments on boats are closed boxes. On a car if you have gas fumes they go out under the car. On a boat they build up in the compartment. One spark and boom.

Your alternator and starter need to be sealed so there are no sparks. Fuel pumps and lines need to be well protected against leaks. Bilge fans need to be run before starting to get rid of any possible fumes.

Boat engines are run much harder than cars. We let the boat sit during the week (or longer), then expec to turn the key, hit the gas, and run it hard for hours at a time. Then put it back on the trailer and repeat. Oils break down, acids build up, etc.

Hope I am not too long winded, but you have to do everything different for a boat, and there are reasons for it. If you follow the rules and listen to the advice you will have a ball. Welcome
