2002 mercury saltwater

I have 2002 mercury saltwater ob when i trim it up or down for eather switch it makes the starter turn it dont engage it was like this when i got the boat has any one had this problem before?

Check the power and ground wires (cables) for corroded connections, boat ride. It may be trying to use the starter circuit as an alternate path.

Yes i check to make sure all the wires was clean starter , battery , solenoid still same thing

Hmmm this sounds like a botched up wiring issue to me. I would check the wiring of both systems against that motor's wiring diagram. Don't think Ive ever heard tell of a starter motor running without the bendix engaging, that is otherwise functioning normally.

Found the problem . The
ground wires coming from the 2 up and down silinoids was hooked up to the hot post on the starter . Thanks for the help !!!
