Your GL-C should start with the kill switch missing, but it will die immediately when you let off the key from the crank position to run. There is a hot start wire from the starter to the ignition to keep the voltage as high as possible when cranking.
On that note, is the battery charged up and cranking at a normal speed. Weak battery = no spark.
