I need to change the plugs on my recently rebuilt 175hp Johnson, I don't actually know what year model it is because the guys I bought it off removed the Manufacture plate when he painted it!!! I was informed by OMC from a number on one of the Welsh plugs it was a late 1980 model ie 1987 or 1988. Anyways it currently has BR9HS-10 NGK R plugs in it. After searching NGK website they are telling me I should be using BZ7HS-10 plugs... Can anyone point me in the right direction.

What you should be using are Champion QL77JC4 plugs, gaped at the original recommended gap of .040 or the revised (late 1990's) gap of .030... whichever works best for you. The difference in the gap may provide improved performance at either low or high rpms... it varies from engine to engine.
