Hello, I have a Yamaha 3 cyl 30 hp 1991 two cycle electric start engine. I would like to check the timing and would like to know it I can use an automotive timing light? Also can I use an automotive tachometer or do I need one for a two cycle engine?

Re: Yamaha timing

you can use a automotive timing light, but an automotive tach won't work

Re: Yamaha timing

Just in case you have problems getting it to work, I had to reverse the clamp on lead for my Snapon timing light where the arrow pointed away from the spark plug for it to pick up the signal

Re: Yamaha timing

Thanks for the replies. I have never timed a two stroke engine and did not know. Thanks again.
