2001 225 overheat alarm issues

I have a 2001 225 2 stroke Yamaha outboard. Back in 2011 the overheat alarm started sounding, replaced thermostats problem solved. Now,2013 alarm sounding off again, this time replaced water pump complete change. Went out first time since, alarm sounded off about 20 minutes into trip. Shut down then idled back a bit went off a short while later then back on while still at idle shut off. And several times after same problem. Water pump is discharging fine any ideas? Is this a hpdi motor? I'm having a similar problem if so. overheating only at idle but horn goes off after I shut off and turn back on. changing out stats and poppit valve this week to try and fix.Mine has a average p stream even with new pump

I've got a similar issue but I have not changed my water pump in a long time (but peeing strong). I'm thinking my aftermarket thermostats got gunked up again after only 11 months but I have not torn them out yet to see. Good luck.

Changed out my stats and poppet valve today and made a huge difference with water pressure on my 02 200 hpdi. You may want to start with a poppet. Its very cheap to replace,Not hard at all to change
