I need some help with my 70 HP Evinrude outboard motor. On land the motor runs and idles fine, when you put it in the water it also runs fine except for when you run the boat at steady speed then back throttle off to low rpm the motor stalls.
Is there some adjustment I can do to fix this?

Re: Engine stalls when you backoff throttle

Any background on this motor ??
New to you or been with you a while with no issues ???
Any recent service or other work been performed ??
How are compression, spark and fuel delivery ??
There is no back pressure when running on a hosepipe with muffs.
Could be as simple as needing to clean / service the carb's

Motor is 1987 evinrude 70 HP. I purchased in Feb. had the carbs cleaned, compession in cylinders were good, new spark plugs. the mechanic that worked on motor said when I put it in water to get intouch with him, he might have to fine tune some adjustments. He will not be back in town for 2 weeks and thought maybe there was something I could do until then.

Well I would wait for him then, especially if he is warrantying his work.
