Purchased a 2001 Larson with Volvo Penta 4.3l recently and took it out the first time and the boat began to fill with water. Had all hoses changed and took it out again and boat again starts to fill with water not as much as previously but it is coming in. Get it out of the water and see that the exhaust hose on the left side of the engine is melted and split. What could be causing this? Impeller was replaced as well as the water pump recently.

Re: Volvo Penta 4.3 l

An overheat will frequently burn those exhaust rubber boots. In the exhaust riser, the hot exhaust gas mixes with exhaust water, and the two travel through and exit together. If you overheat, either from a lack of water intake or a block in the exhaust, you'll have just hot exhaust gas traveling through the exhaust pipe and it melts the rubber.

Time to replace those and make sure you don't have an overheating condition or blocked exhaust.

Thank You that is what we were thinking but were not sure. We were afraid it was a manifold.
