Another engine swap question 2.3 liter

So I have a 90 Sunbird Capri. It has this jem of a motor in it. My buddy races dirt track and uses basically the same motor i.e. "Lima" pinto motor. The block for these is basically the same all the way up to about 90ish when the eliminated the distributor plug and moved the oil pump. Does anyone know of or has heard of someone using a post 90s motor in place of the original one? I have a ranger powertrain, fuel injected/4 plug, sitting on the floor of my garage that was meant for a dirttrack racer for myself but kind've lost interest as I didn't really need another hobby.
