Interested in purchasing a 1992 3200 LXC (similar to St Tropaz) tomorrow. We did a mini sea trial last Thursday. My problem is with the throttles wide open, the boat topped out at 19kts and the bow never really came down nor did the boat really get ontop of the water. There is not a trim indicator but I did see the captain put the trim to full bow down. If during the survey we determine that the trim tabs operate normally, what else should I look for? Is this boat underpowered with 5.7s? Compression check? I was expecting this boat to top out around 25-27 and on plane..

Twin 5.7's should be plenty to get it on plane. Sure, BBC's is always better, but I'd imagine it should still run about 30-32mph with the 5.7's.

What kind of RPM's did the boat get?
There are many reason's the boat could struggle to get on plane, but I would investigate more. How many hours on the engines? It is a over 20 years old, something to consider.

Wellcraft?

Twin 350 stern drives in a 32' cruiser should give you 30 mph or more. What you described sounds like some issues. What RPM was it turning at that speed? Figure it should be 4500-5000 RPM at WOT.

I would imagine closer to 4400-4800rpms is close to book, don't think most of that vintage of 5.7L was rated to 5K. I believe with twin 5.7L's, that general 32' Welly is rated to run about 32mph @ WOT, and cruise in the lower 20's. Was probably a v-drive, not I/O right?
