I just swapped over my connector from the 5 pin

With the 5 pin I either don't get the blue wire activated, or the 5-7 adapter which just doesn't feel secure on my truck. I just bought this guy 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector, 3' Long Hopkins Wiring H20042 and installed it tonight. I just cut and soldered in the wiring back just in front of the folding part.

Good news, all the lights/brakes/turn signals work as expected after using their wiring color diagram. I still need to test the activation of the reverse mode where I don't need the pin lock. It got dark and I didn't feel like trying to get the boat out/in the garage by myself :)

Here's some crappy cell phone pictures.

Nice - good to see how it turned out. Can't wait to hear an update on the brakes.

Were unused wires in the trailer before (now in use) or did you just end-up with unused wires on the adapter you bought?

Was wiring colors true to standards (and instructions) or did you just lookup the 5pin wiring standard and mark them prior to cutting?

There are two unused wires on the connector. Black and yellow. The wire colors are different which is bad if you have any ocd :) their website (etrailer) has the color chart with typical color - their color. Not sure why its not standard, by it wasn't difficult to wire.

The new ones are much thicker than what's on there.

I will probably pull the boat out tomorrow and should be able to test it. The blue wire definitely hooks up to a solenoid at the brakes so unless that thing is broken I have hopes it will work as we expect.

I would say it seems like a "half worked" situation. The brakes do seem to apply but I was able to move back some. I think there is likely a non working actuator/solenoid on our trailer.

I will be talking to the place I bought it from about it.
