i have a 58 seahorse 35 i am rebuilding,i took apart the gear case to fix it from popping out of gear and noticed a big lock ring on the drive shaft that was in a slot in the upper housing but it was not holing anything it was almost as if it were just being used as a spacer but if that were the case im sure they would have used a washer. any one know why its there and how its suppose to be installed? it is #35 in the pic. also does the dog or gear look worn to you?
