hi there, I just picked up a 1990 four winns 170 freedom, I am not sure what motor is in the boat as I am not at home but..

it starts with a turn of the key and purrs, it runs great. I drove it for around 30 minutes, put it in neutral it dies. I will not start again unless it sits for 30-60 minutes, then it fires right up again.

thanks
Steve

Well start by making sure you have/or are getting fuel sounds like maybe a delivery problem ..IS it cooling properly whens the last time impellar was gone through ??Make sure fuel tank is venting properly ...A compression check wouldnt hurt either to make sure all your cylinders are ok ...

I just picked it up, but it stays around 150 so thats good.
I am not sure about the impeller but if its cooling i am assming it is okay.

I will chech the compression tonight, any idea what PSI i should be getting

the vent is fine, if i blow into it i can hear the gas bubbling, but just in saying that, should the vent not be above the gas line? it sould only blow air back out of the fill tube?

Thanks
Steve

Kinda sounds like vapor lock. Try using your blower or opening up the engine compartment when it dies.
