Hey guys,

Been a while since I posted, I sold my previous 1997 Celebrity 180 and just bought a 2004 Crownline 202BR, loving the boat but the alarm is now going off twice every 3 mins or so...and will stay on steady at or close to WOT.

I geuss my first question is - any ideas on what it could be?...everything I read is pointing to a bad IAC...next question is what code reader do I get and where can I buy one? I live near Toronto, Canada.

Thanks in advance for any help you give me!!

Re: 2004 5.0 mpi

I have the same engine in my Baja and last year had the same problem, the easiest way to tell if it is the IAC is back the gas completely off and if it has no problems idling at a very low RPM it is probably not the IAC. If the boat stalls at low RPM then it probably is your IAC. One good thing about the IAC is it is relatively inexpensive and it is easy to change on your own in about 10-15 min or less. When I went to look for a new IAC I did notice at least here in Ottawa there were widely different prices for them depending on the marina so spend an extra 10-15 min phoning around and save yourself some coin or if you have the time order it online.

Thanks Kirk, it actually stalled once as I was coming off plane and has been fine since...hopefully someone can help me find a code reader that would let me know whats wrong for sure.

The cheapest I have seen them is from Rinda. But they are still pricey. I decided it was cheaper for me to pay the marina mechanic to hook up his reader for me.

The scan tool with Part #94008 is $50 would that work for my engine?

Do you know if your engine has MerCruiser PCM-555 or ECM-555? If so, no it won't work.

There should be a sticker or two on the ECM itself. Should be a Mercruiser part number and the ECM type.

I checked a couple of marinas around here and they were well above the $400 price from Rinda.

Ouch, you can get an OBD scanner for less than $40 now...thanks for the list Don...looks like there are several causes for the 2beeps per minute alarm...geuss I'll have to pay a marina to scan it for me.

Packers4ever, You said you had a Celebrity 180 and sold it ?..... I have the same boat but 1 year earlier..... never knew of anyone else who had one. Happened to find this forum last week. I'm a little late to the party - LOL.
I'm the original owner of mine. Would you happen to have a couple of picture you may have taken of the 180? Would like to see it. By the way, how much did ya sell it for? Thanks
Here's mine:

Re: 2004 5.0 mpi

Hey guys, I had my 5.0 MPI scanned (Serial# OM681848) and it turns out the IAC needs to be replaced (Marina tried to clean it first and the alarm went away for a short time but is back on now)...I have been told its fairly easy to do yourself, does anyone know exactly where it is and how its done?

HappyHarley, I dont want my question to get covered up by us talking back and forth...I'll reply to you asap.

Thanks.

Thanks RJ, manual 17 says 1993-97 motors, is that still the right one? Looks like Manual 31 is for 2001 and up 5.0, 5.7 and 6.2 engines?

Yes, 31 would be the one. For some reason when I am at work using IE I can't see the whole page when I go to BoatInfo.
