I searched this site and quite a few others, trying to find the serial number for my engine.
I found numerous different answers, none of which seemed to apply to my motor.
I hunted all over the block and everywhere I could to find the serial number on my Mercury Black Max 150 XR2.
I finally found this.

"Every Mercury outboard has a serial number label located on the transom bracket area of the engine."

So, I looked for a label and sure enough I found a metal label on the port side of the transom bracket with the serial number engraved on it.
The serial number on any Mercury outboard can be found on a label on the motor's transom bracket.
