I just bought a 1974 Wards Seaking and the coils are bad. Unfortunately nobody sells the OEM coils but CDI has a replacement. I have now tried two coils and they both went bad (I did not realize that the second original coil was bad until I tried the second CDI coil). Two topics I need help with. 1. has anyone installed the CDI coil on a similar motor and if so, how did it fit. Also, the blue wire goes to the screw but the white/brown (negative) does not have a spot. Where does it hook up? 2. Assuming I grounded everything correctly, why are the coils making a popping sound and generating a little smoke? I bought it from a friend and the first coil actually fried when he hooked it up. It ran for about 30 seconds and POP.
