Engine Coupler

I have an 89 Reinell 173 with the OMC cobra 4.3. I just pulled the outdrive because I was told the engine coupler is bad and there are big rubber chunks that got chewed up where the yoke shaft goes. Also when I touch the engine coupler with a long screwdriver it seems loose and wobbles back and forth. Should it be doing that or is it supposed to be firm?

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,... It's completely Junk,... Pull the motor, 'n change it...

Get a service manual and the right tools.
You'll need an alignment shaft.
These things are reallllllly hard to destroy,makes you wonder what caused it to go??
Locked up drive? Motor out of alignment? Idle too high?

Figure it out or it just might happen again???
