Gentlemen,

I know 2 strokes smoke, but this thing after a cold start could of set a smoke screen on D-day. After the motor warms up the smoking seems to lessen to the point I wouldn't be embarrassed to have it on my local lake.

Motor has been decarbed, carb rebuilt, new fuel filter/screen and lines, fresh plugs gapped to .030, gearbox has a new impeller, new waterline grommet, and a fresh batch of gear oil. I've tried fresh fuel with different oil (TCW-3) and still smokes like the dickens. What could cause this issue?

Water Barrel after about 15 minutes of running. Seems like a lot of oil? Done during the decarb and carb tune.

That last picture is your problem... they all smoke like crazy in a barrel.

The picture of the oil in the barrel is nothing out of the norm. Every one of my (2 cycle) motors leaves a similar picture; be it a Scott, Evinrude, Johnson, Firestone, Gale, Chris Craft, Clinton, etc. ect - after only running for 10 minutes or so. Other than that, they all smoke and you'll find plenty of smoke unless you have a windy day. If the motor runs okay then don't look for trouble. If the motor 'embarrasses' you I'll pick it up. Those 18's are great motors!

I've got a johnson 9.9 and a Force 85 and both combined don't smoke half as bad as this E-rude. I guess I'll take your word for it, but if some hot hollywood female type comes up and berates me over my smoky engine, I guess I will rev her up and "pop smoke"...pun intended.

I see an oil drip on the rear of the gear case from the exhaust housing. Possible it's running rich on carb adjustments.

That's actually from the oil slick in the barrel that clung to the exhaust leg when i pulled it out.

Could be normal, but it may still indicate a rich adjustment. Could be due to jetting, float level, fuel pump leaking, etc. Certainly worth a quick look...

Come to think of it I did adjust to a leaner mixture before I shut it down and took it out of the barrel. I guess I should plop it back in the barrel and see if it smokes again.

if im reading right, the smoke and mess ( not a bad mess) in the barrel is during a DECARB AND TUNING! it will smoke like crazy just doing a decarb in a barrel or on the water, and drip goop from everywhere it can get out. jmo
