Figured I would start a build thread so I can get some insight along the way! As the title states I just picked up a king fisher bass boat powered by a mercury 500 50hp motor. The goals I have are to completely strip the interior and cut out all of the existing fiberglass structures, re-support the boat in any way I see necessary and then build up a nice little fishing boat. I began stripping her out this past Thursday and here are a few pictures:

Re: 1973 16' KingFisher Fiberglass Custom Bass boat Build

I've got almost all of the fiberglass and rotted old wood out of the boat but it appears that the floor is the hull of the boat? Can anyone comment on this? There is like an 1.5" core to the bottom of the boat but in no way is there room for stringers? Rather confused. Anyone have info on boats like this?

Hi Dan welcome to the iboats dry dock. That kingfisher boat will fix up nice and be great for fishing. I don'y think I've seen a boat that size without stringers. Post up some pics of the floor and your progress. Interesting project boat to tag along on.

I know this is an old thread but I have that same boat. It looks like to me there is a ply wood insert around the small step up in the front and back and like you said the rest feels like a really thick hull.i am also gonna have to replace my transom
