cooling water leak

I have a 1962 evinrude fisherman 5.5 hp. today while running it in a barrel of water, I noticed water dripping from the shift lever shaft on the side of the motor. I know this is not normal but is it a major problem where it should absolutely not be ran anymore until it is fixed? the motor runs fine. what could be the problem?

I think there is an oring on the shaft and that could be bad. I'm sure somebody else will chime in with more info.

Check under the hood to see where it is originating.
