I'm trying to tear down my lower unit on a 1997 40hp Force engine as the pinion gear has shattered. The manual I have an searches on the internet say that once the pinion gear is removed then I should be able to pull the main shaft out of the gear housing. However, it won't come out. It is still spinning freely so I know it isn't jammed. Anyone have a suggestion or know what I am missing?
